The Providence family is growing!

Home The Providence family is growing!

On October 29, 2023, in Lanoraie, Sister Claire Houde, Provincial Superior, received commitments from two new Providence Associates, Marcelle Konan and Claudia Gonzalez, during the dominical mass. The current Lanoraie Associates also renewed their commitment for a year, again in an effort to relieve the most destitute, as did our Blessed Founder, Mother Émilie Tavernier-Gamelin.

The Sisters of Providence have worked in Lanoraie for 149 years. Sisters from the local community, including Sister Rita Mondor, Sister Colombe Gobeil and Sister Lise Gravel, were inspired to found the Providence Associates 31 years ago, and create Carrefour Émilie, a meeting place for volunteers and the less fortunate.

This tiny store, which is really in need of an expansion, collects used clothing and various items that could be of use to those in need. Each week, a number of families are happy to receive a basket containing a variety of food, and clothe their family at low cost.

During the mass, Father Joseph Koudougou delivered a homily on “Loving your neighbour as yourself.”

As Providence Associates, we put this beautiful commandment into practice, and invite those who would like to help others to join us. All are welcome.
